Photoncycle have invented a revolutionary way to store solar energy efficiently and safelyas solid hydrogen, solving the main problem with solar energy: having either too much atonce, or not enough for months. After having raised $5.3 million, they were ready to bringtheir unique product to market, starting with Northern Europe. They needed a brand narrative and website that could clarify their positioning to target customers and win trust globally.

The work:

I designed Photoncycle’s website, built its design library from scratch based on the brand identity, and led the design of the product configurator. I took the configurator from initial research and prototyping through to usability testing, while also shaping the visual direction of the website.

The challenges:

One of the main challenges was creating the visual assets for the website. I worked closely with CGI and 3D artists, commissioning and art-directing assets to communicate Photoncycle’s technology in a clear and engaging way while building a consistent visual language across the site.

Another key challenge was designing the configurator experience for a technically complex energy product. I had to structure a large amount of information into a clear, step-by-step journey, helping homeowners understand their options and make informed decisions without feeling overwhelmed.

The main challenge was creating a meaningful digital experience from a highly minimalist identity. A key part of the process was finding the right tension between typography and images, while creating layouts that felt dynamic and unexpected without adding unnecessary visual elements.

Another challenge was translating the “DIIR Meets” concept into the website through the layouts and interactions. I experimented with different compositions and relationships between elements to create a sense of dialogue, while giving each project its own visual rhythm.
